What A Hoot!

When I told my boyfriend that I was once a Girl Guide, he burst out in hysterical laughter and refused to believe me until I showed him my sash full of Brownie badges (including a Sixer’s badge, thank you very much!). His disbelief aside, my fondest memory of Girl Guides was definitely craft time, followed closely by ‘The Chocolate Game.’

The reason I’ve been propelled into corny sentiment is the other day I was flicking through my old issues of Frankie www.frankie.com.au and I rediscovered Tamara Maynes www.tamaramaynes.com macrame owl wall hangings. I distinctly remember one craft session at Brownies where my attempt at macrame friendship bracelets was weak to say the least, but regardless my best Brownie friend and I exchanged bracelets and wore them for months on end. Maynes’ macrame masterpieces rejuvenated my appreciation for good old fashioned arts and crafts and raw materials, and reminded me of Clag covered fingers, paint on my culottes, but most importantly the purity of childhood friendships. As a member of Gen Y I’m surrounded by wonderfully creative friends who all favour new fangled technologies in their artistic endeavours, but Maynes’ little owls bought a refreshingly natural and charming human element to my digitally devoured world.

You will be amazed by Mayne’s sweet and original designer crafts, I swear by the Guide Law.
