The Ipswich House

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

The Ipswich House is an exhibition being held at Ipswich Art Gallery until Mid-November. The exhibition is an enlightening encapsulation of some of Queensland’s early domestic architecture, frozen in time by 13 contemporary Queensland artists. The exhibition delves into the city’s significant architectural heritage through a selection of commissioned house portraits across a diverse range of mediums.

By taking a look at Jane Burton’s www.janeburton.com.au photograph of MacFarlane’s House #1, it’s quite clear that the exhibition not only documents important design trends and fabrication methods in Ipswich’s history, but also reveals more about the history and stories that belonged to the house’s inhabitants. I’ve always marvelled at the simple point and shoot formula of photography because of its ability to capture a million stories in one effortless motion.
