Listen up! Music Review

Monday, March 7th, 2011
While compilling some music reviews for the upcoming Queensland Homes issue, we came accross these two musical gems … we play them in the QH office, music helps with out deadlines! SO, here are two releases we simply love …
1 / ‘So Frenchy So Chic’ returns in 2011 with a double-disc of delectable, sultry songs from the best of France’s indie, pop, soul and jazz acts. Cartell Music have become synonymous with spreading the French love, and the SFSC collections have become the Unofficial Soundtrack to the Alliance Francaise French Film Festival. With such an exquisite choice of handpicked songs highlighting the best music to come out of this fashionable country over the past twelve months, it promises sublime listening pleasure from start to end. 2/ Welcoming in yet another great Cartell release, we have been devouring the ‘Beautiful Imperfection’ album by the gorgeous, silken toned Asa. With a Paris-born, Nigerian heritage, she grew up listening to a diverse range of music from artists including Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson and Lauryn Hill, and these influences have all played their part when she began to forge her own musical path. ‘Beautiful Imperfection’ is our choice for cool tunes during these hot and balmy summer & Autumn days - press play, pour a cold drink, slip into something comfortable, and melt in to her infectious, upbeat tunes and ballads. So Frenchy, So Chic

So Frenchy, So Chic is one of those rare gifts - a collection of French pop, indie and chanson that is dripping with the sexy, sumptuous and tantalising ambience that is french chic. Not one, but two discs compiled by Juliette Bouquerel and Jean-Francois Ponthieux for Cartell Music make this one of the most sublime soundtracks to contemporary life to come out of the Gallic musical landscape.
