A traditional front facade hides an ultra-modern rear extension that acts as a hub for leisure activities and social gatherings – giving new meaning to the adage, ‘Business at the front, party at the back.’
Owners Graeme and Kelly, both seasoned renovators, had a vision for the home they share with their 17-year-old son, Kuhpar and cavoodle, Rippah. This vision involved integrating their existing indoor living space with an external entertainment area that would feed their love for hosting gusts and evoke a permanent holiday vibe.
“Our idea was to have an indoor/outdoor area that would feel like relaxed, resort-style living all year round. As we’re avid entertainers, we needed somewhere we could cater for guests while keeping a close eye on the children in the pool,” says Kelly.
Evans and Evans Pools Pty Ltd designed an spectacular swimming pool to complement the new entertainment area, creating a focal point from inside the home. An eco-friendly magna mineral pool was installed, which contains magnesium and potassium-enriched water to enhance swimming pleasure. The pool features two ‘air blowers’ controlled by an air switch to give a relaxing body massage while in the pool. Multi-coloured LED lights around its perimeter brilliantly set the mood for after dark soirees. Different textures and finishes combine in and around the pool area to harmonising with the garden surrounds and reflect an authentic, organic style – something Kelly loves. “We chose rocks instead of tiles for the pool wall, as we felt that a natural product would give an earthier feel.”
A feature wall with ambient lighting was constructed in the pool area with an in-built projector screen that comes out of, and down, the wall at the click of a button.
“Being able to watch movies or enjoy the rugby on a big screen while we’re in the pool is a very big plus for us – we simply love it!”
To ensure usability of the entertainment area, no matter the season, an external fireplace by Real Flame was chosen for over the pool. This challenging installation involved coordinating multiple trades. Mirrored glass first needed to be fire-rated, then installed behind where the fireplace would sit. A gas fitter was called in to lay the lines and ensure the fireplace could be operated from inside the home, followed by an electrician to wire the starter.
Bretts Architectural Window Solutions installed a café opening window 1.2 metres above ground to flow from the server directly into the pool area. Custom made and certified windows and doors were also designed specifically to the owners brief and to meet the energy efficiency requirements.
The new renovations are an entertainer’s dream, embodying absolute luxury with a seamless flow between the old and the new.
