From a pre-war workers cottage to a modern, luxurious escape

This small workers cottage received the ultimate transformation, becoming an elegant, functional home with plenty of light and space, reflecting the owners’ design journey.

Since late 2010, the owners of this basic but much-loved pre-war workers cottage had been on a journey to redevelop the space into a modern, luxurious escape. Located in a demolition-controlled precinct in Brisbane’s West End, there were plenty of initial difficulties which challenged their resolve. However, when Jen Hands Design, James Maguire Constructions and Bryant Sullivan of Hint2Coast Cabinets joined the project a few years later, the journey was reinvigorated – leading to the home’s new design.

QH_208to211-6Jen applied her considerable expertise to create an elegant, functional and very liveable design. Her attention to detail and determination to resolve challenging design problems resulted in creative and innovative solutions for the home’s compact spaces.“ The project was full of delightful and engaging moments with the owners,” says Jen. “They were very interested in, and responsive to, innovative design ideas.” Their thought and consideration of the options presented and contributions towards the generation of ideas ensured the project outcomes were truly tailored to their needs.
