IKEA launches the Indian inspired SVÄRTAN collection

It’s dark and moody, modern exotic... and we absolutely love it!

Ikea svartan collection

IKEA has well and truly leaped into a fashion-forward direction with the release of the limited edition SVÄRTAN collection – their first contemporary partnership with Swedish fashion and textile designer Martin Bergström and fashion students from the National Institute of Fashion and Technology (NIFT) in New Dehli, India.

But there’s no trace of bright embellishments or vibrant colours that India is so well known for – rather, the IKEA SVÄRTAN collection plays with patterns, light and shade for an inspiring and unique twist on the modern/exotic style. It’s dark and moody, and we absolutely love it!

Consisting of textiles, soft furnishings, paper items, glassware, ceramics and metal bowls, tray tables and plates, the collection is full of subtle textures and abstract patterns, with each individual item being beautifully handcrafted.

The entire collection was produced in India and uses many traditional techniques together with natural materials. SVÄRTAN will be available in Australian IKEA stores now until sold out.
