The ambitious lighting project for Sway for Elements of Byron resort has been designed by Luxxbox in collaboration with Gold Coast firm, TDLD.

Sway pushes the boundaries of design in both form and function – the fixture, comprised of 100 meters of curved extruded polished copper which appears to float, also does double duty housing for the restaurant’s smoke detectors.

Earlier this year, the project also won the award for Excellence by International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), presented in Boston, which is incredible kudos for two local Queensland design studios.

Brisbane-based Luxxbox is headed up by Creative Director, Jason Bird, and celebrates 10 years of designing and supplying innovative custom lighting design to projects across Australia and the globe.

“Each project has its specifications based on the design concept of the space. We work with these to create luminaire installations which become integral to the overall design of the space,” explains Jason of his studio’s design process. “These fixtures not only function as luminaires but become a piece art, as much as any other visual art installation in the space… we are proud that we can provide this, from concept through to design and manufacture here in Australia.”
