See inside the exquisite Boomerang House — a masterpiece of design

Boomerang House Joe Adsett Architecture + GRAYA

Built on a 1200 sqm block within the inner-city suburb of Ascot, Brisbane, by high-end residential Brisbane builder/developers GRAYA™, the Boomerang House by Joe Adsett Architects is a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship, with a meticulously considered approach to materials and a thoroughly contemporary melding of form and function.

While grand in scale — the property consists of five bedrooms, including a parent’s retreat, five bathrooms, a four-car garage, an underground wine cellar, an upper-level lounge, a light-filled downstairs living area with grounds including a swimming pool and tennis court— Boomerang still manages to feel relaxed enough to accommodate family living.

The defining feature of the downstairs living area is a showstopping helical stairway that joins two floors of the residence, a sculptural masterpiece created with CSR Gyprock’s innovative and premium Flexible plasterboard that enables architecturally defining moments such as curved walls, ceilings and stairways.

This curved geometry defines the inside space, carried through with statement architectural features that are layered throughout the home. Boomerang has a softly spoken interiorscape in a fresh white and soft grey palette, a whisper-quiet background that allows the home’s impressive features to shine.

“This was the first curved stairway we created; Gyprock Flexible helped to make this process seamless,” said Rob from GRAYA™. The 6.5 mm thick plasterboard sheets have an enhanced gypsum core designed to bend for small radius curves, enabling designers and installers to create convex curves with a 250mm radius and concave curves with a 450mm radius.

The stairway leads up to an expansive wrap-around library, complemented by a circular skylight which enables light to fill a spectacular void that traverses the three-story home. Breathtaking in scope and visually impactful, the skylight and void were also created using Gyprock Flexible to highlight the elevated design thinking of Joe Adsett Architects and the superb craftsmanship of GRAYA™
