A modern kitchen renovation (with a touch of country style!)

Home inspiration can come in many guises, and for the owners of this Brisbane bayside home, a reality television show held the key to their gorgeous new kitchen. While cosied up on the couch watching House Rules High Stakes, they spotted the work of Style Kitchens by Design and were immediately sold on the sophisticated aesthetic.

With busy schedules and a business to run, the owners were keen to get their own kitchen project moving. Their dream? A stylish, highly functional hub where they could relax, entertain, and spend quality time with their teenage children — and, importantly, a space that would work beneath the beautiful beams of their soaring new cathedral ceilings.

They reached out to founder and designer of Style Kitchens by Design, Stuart May. One look at the light-filled aspect, which takes in enviable water views, and Stuart knew this was going to be something special. “The owners wanted a modern country feel in a seaside home with extra touch of classic style,” he says. “They were looking for something unique that would make a statement alongside the new ceiling.”

The designer and his team were engaged to design and manufacture the main kitchen and expansive butler’s pantry — everything from the hand-painted shaker cabinetry and integrated range hood to the luxurious Mont Blanc Quartzite benchtops and splashback. Stuart also oversaw the installation of high-end appliances from Asko, PITT Cooking, and Qasair. Having these names on board helped guarantee the success of the project. “When PITT Cooking is involved, it’s always a great product,” he notes.

The result is a beautiful meeting of classic style and sleek modern functionality with the company’s signature artisan touch. The vaulted, airy space is breathtaking while carefully chosen pendants and chairs bring warmth with their woven textures and natural timbers.

In a finishing flourish, the owners requested a small balcony that now gazes over the kitchen and out towards the water. “The family just loves spending time and entertaining here,” says Stuart, who also reveals his own ‘favourite’ detail. “It’s a toss-up between the oven tower shape with the cathedral ceiling, and that extra little Romeo & Juliet balcony,” he says. “For us here at Style Kitchens by Design, it’s another great result, achieved by mixing the owners’ ambition and ideas with creative expertise and quality workmanship and products.”
