QH Wish List: Out of Africa

Our favourite finds this week are ethically handcrafted in Malawi, Africa

This has summertime written all over it. A laidback-luxe range of furniture pieces, each one handcrafted by local artisans in rural Malawi. The warm, natural beauty of cane shines in a selection of eye-catching dining and occasional chairs, cosy love seats, stylish loungers and benches, and quietly magnificent light pendants. Each one is unique, all are gorgeous.

Proudly brought to Australia by Malawi Cane — who ensures the artisans and their communities are supported fairly through the exchange — these genuine works of art draw on sustainable, endemic materials. Their intricate woven texture is thanks to a century-old, labour-intensive process — one Traditional Single Chair takes ten days to complete!

Imbued with personality, most pieces come in two or three colourways while selected chairs and accent pieces are available in a wide range of hues, from earthy Raw, Natural, Rooibos and White to crisp, rich Navy, Santorini and Black. Or chat to Malawi Cane about a custom blend for a totally personal finish.
